Dominic Martinez, a recent MA graduate, and Professor Greg Johnson will be presenting papers on contemporary Native Hawaiian religious life at the upcoming Native American and Indigenous Studies Association annual meeting in Sacramento. Martinez's paper considers intersections of Hawaiian and Mormon traditions, especially as expressed in renewed canoeing practices.  Johnson's paper explores cultural ramifications of the unfolding Kawaiaha`o Church controversy regarding burial protections in downtown Honolulu.
