Female Esoterics in Song

Professor Holly Gayley delivered a lecture, "On Love and Destiny: Reading the Epistolary Courtship of a Buddhist Tantric Couple,” at the University of Southern California on March 22, 2017, hosted by their Deparment of Religious Studies.

The following day, she participated on a pre-performance panel for the World Premier of Female Esoterics in Song at the Garrison Theatre, Scripps College in Claremont. For the piece, “Persevere,” an NEA commission by composer Karola Obermüller, featuring soprano Anne Harley and harpist harpist Barbara Poeschl-Edrich, Professor Gayley contributed selections from Khandro Tare Lhamo’s letters to the libretto and a short essay on “Three Generations of Visionary Buddhist Women” to the program notes.
